Music

Music is and always has been an important part of the Czech culture. The Czech saying "Co Czech to musikant", every Czech is a musician carries much truth. This is seen every year during the Czech Festival when the Wilber-Clatonia Czech Alumni Band gets together.  Often times marching with as many as 200 members this band has been described as more fun than any one person should have with their clothes on!

In fact the polka is a dance created originally by a young Czech farm girl named Anna. The name polka is derived from the Czech word pulka, literally meaning little step or half step and referring to the half step found in the dance.Unfortunately the Czech work polka means Polish woman often Poland is incorrectly credited with the origin of the polka.
